Advanced Kayak Skills & Safety Drills

  • Canyon River Instruction 11120 County Road 194 Salida, CO, 81201 United States (map)

This advanced kayak clinic is designed for paddlers who already have some experience to build on for kayaking technique, water reading & scouting, and river safety skills, working in class III - IV whitewater. We will practice boat based rescues, boofs, catching micro-eddys, maintaining good group awareness, safety, and more. This class is designed for those who are reasonably comfortable in Class III (such as Browns Canyon) and have a desire to increase their technical kayaking skills.

A basic roll in a hardshell kayak is required.

Group sizes are kept small with typically three students and an instructor, allowing for maximum practice time for everyone. Students are encouraged to use their own personal gear such as kayaks, lifejackets, helmets, etc, but CRI is happy to provide any needed items. CRI will provide transportation to and from the river and our meeting location.

Prospective students are asked to have a conversation with the instructor to make sure that this class is appropriate. Please email alan@canyonriverinstruction.com or call 719-398-1180.

Please review the Essential Eligibility Criteria (EEC) and a basic gear list here.
